For most of my life, I prided myself on being independent, self-confident, and deeply self-reliant.
I was that friend who never asked for help. That optimist who powered through. That achiever who didn’t complain.
Then one day, I opened my heart.
I let a group of local running friends in — people I trained with every weekend in Sarawak, Malaysia. We pushed each other for over 120 weekends, running six full marathons together. I thought we had built trust. I thought I had finally found a circle where I could just be me.
But trust, as I learned, can be betrayed.
What came next was a spiral I never expected. Six months of confusion, self-doubt, and emotional pain. I cried often. I questioned my worth.
I couldn’t see what went wrong, and worse — I started blaming myself for everything.
